Project Universality: Comprehend to improve
Since 2012 the Lab for Simulation, Ergonomics and Productive Situations Project (PSPLab) of the University of São Carlos (UFSCar) develops studies and researches about the transport of passengers with disabilities, obese and elders coordinated by Professor Nilton Luiz Menegon and Professor Talita Naiara Rossi da Silva.
In 2016, started the Project named Universality: Comprehend to improve, in partnership with the Brazilian Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC).
Project Universality had the goal to map the accessibility conditions in the Brazilian Air Transport and understand the problems and difficulties faced by the passengers with disability, in order to improve the regulation for airports, airlines and to develop solutions to aircraft cabin. This project used the Activity Theory and Ergonomic Analysis of Work Activities. Were part of the research 475 passengers and professionals of civil aviation in Brazil, analyzing 37 airports. The results of this research revealed that the system of activities involving airport and air carriers professionals (including crew members) is full of contradictions and discontinuities which greatly impact the experience of the passengers subject of this research. All the conclusion and statistical studies were shared with the Brazilian Civil Aviation Authority, Air Carriers and Airport Operators and will guide future actions and projects.
